1900 English Manor

I have mixed feelings about this English manor. I was doubting whether to post it or not. On the one hand it is a magnificent building, with breathtaking gardens, no doubt about that, but, on the other hand I am not too fond of the 60s retro style used in some of the rooms. So, as you see, I finally decided to go ahead and post it though I did not include all of the pictures. If you'd like to see what rooms I left out just go to the AD article right here. Built in the early 1900s by architect Edwin Lutyens, this 12-bedroom country house is located in Marshcourt, in the Hampshire, England, about 75 miles to the southwest of London. Lutyens blended Tudor and Jacobean features (paneled rooms, carved staircases, mullioned windows) with neoclassical details (marble columns, elaborate plasterwork ceilings). New York based interior designer Robert Couturier was in charge of giving it a more contemporary look.












This of course is the ball room. Quite grand. I know you need lots of space to twirl around but wouldn't you add at least some comfortable -and stylish- seating to rest a while before the next waltz?

Medieval Manor in Devon

This might be my last post until January 23 so I'd like to wish you all a very merry Christmas, Happy New Year and happy holidays, and... try not to forget me!

And my last post before Christmas takes us to Devon, in England. Jan-Eric and Jennifer Österlund live in this 1830 manor house which has never been extended and is a typical medieval hall house. A 14th century manor all dressed up for Christmas. If you'd like to read the whole story just click here.

Four men were needed to carry the impressive tree into the great hall and a wooden frame was specially built to support it safely.

The oak door dates from the 1560s.

The fireplace in the great hall was installed by William Sherman; his initials and those of his wife are carved as part of the frieze. The Flemish tapestry, c1680, illustrates the Story of Samson.

Manor in Denmark

Hello, dear readers. Friday already! My mother is coming on Sunday to stay with us for a month and I have quite a number of things to do yet before she arrives. So, before I get moving here is today's tour for you.
Anette and Heine Robert Dahl used to live in apartments in Copenhagen. In the spring of 2009 they moved to Gelskov. Here they live in this Manor on Funen where they also hold exhibitions, display antiques and flea market finds for sale, and they even run a bed & breakfast.
